David Howse - Milton Columbines

My Story

My name is David Howse. As a music major in college, I was unsure about how I could make a living while doing something meaningful with my life. But some encouragement from a woman from my community at home instilled confidence in me that helped me get over that sense of uncertainty. Today, I try to do the same thing for Boston area children through my role as Executive Director for the Boston Children’s Chorus. We work with children to develop in them a sense of identity, discipline and confidence so they can go forward as compassionate, tolerant community-builders as well as artistically, culturally and civically engaged citizens of the world. Our work helps children to rise the same way Miss Mary helped me to rise when I was in college.

When you were growing up, what was your dream job?

My dream job was to be a singing doctor - - an ENT doctor by day, singer by night!

Who in your life has helped you to rise?

My mother.

What aspirations do you have for your community?

That we might understand each other's histories and cultures so that we can better address the -isms that divide us.
